Many UK homeowners have added decks, patios, lighting and flower beds to their outdoor spaces in order to help them get through lockdown - that's according to a recent survey conducted by DeckPlus.
The survey, which received 400 responses, asked: Have you added any of the following to your garden because of the coronavirus lockdown measures? Respondents were given 16 options and allowed to tick any number of answers (including none at all).
The most popular answers were:

17.5% of respondents ticked this answer

11.25% of respondents ticked this answer
Jason Cole, Managing Director of DeckPlus and its parent company Greensquares, said:
"We saw a significant increase in decking orders in 2020, so we're not surprised to learn that a lot of people have been adding decks to their properties in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
"There are a number of possible reasons for this: obviously, we've all been spending a lot more time at home due to the government's lockdown measures, and adding a deck or patio to your property is a good way to beat that cooped-up feeling. It's also a good place to spend time with friends and family when you're not allowed to invite them indoors.
"Also, a lot of people were forced to cancel their holidays in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, and it's possible that some of those people chose to spend the money on home and garden improvements instead."
About this survey
The survey was sent to Greensquares customers in the UK and received 400 responses:
- 335 from England
- 38 from Wales
- 25 from Scotland
- 2 from Northern Ireland
These responses were submitted between 19th November 2020 and 6th January 2021. Respondents were UK residents who use their outdoor spaces a lot: 75.5% of respondents stated that they use their outdoor spaces 'every day' in spring / summer, and a further 23.3% use their outdoor spaces 'at least once a week' in spring / summer.
Even during the colder months, the majority of respondents continue to make use of their gardens; 17% of respondents stated that they use their outdoor spaces 'every day' in autumn / winter, and a further 45.8% use them 'at least once a week' in autumn / winter. Only 1 respondent out of 400 stated that their property does not have a garden or outdoor space.
